Screen-Free Week April 30-May 6, 2012

From April 30-May 6, children, families, schools, and communities will be challenged to turn off TV, video games, computers, and hand-held devices and turn on life.

Visit one of the KC Area Screen-Free supporters listed on this site.

The national annual celebration encourages families to power off the screens for entertainment and instead play, read, create, daydream, explore nature, and enjoy time with family and friends.

Myrna Minnis, local artist and creator of oogly, has been teaching kids fun through creative play through art classes for over 20 years. While society has become more and more reliant on screens for entertainment, she offers an alternative to students  - rediscovering the magic of their own imaginations.

Screen Free Week is an opportunity for your child to explore life. Myrna Minnis is hosting free workshops and classes at other Screen-Free sponsors throughout the week. Your child won't want to miss Art with Myrna.

"Regardless of content, excessive screen time changes children’s fundamental connection to the world. It deprives them of hands-on creative play—the foundation of learning, creativity, constructive problem solving, and the capacity to wrestle with life to make it meaningful."
